What would a trip to the Grand Old Lady of the Falls be without high tea on the verandah? Dainty sandwiches, strawberry jam and cream on scones, and slices of delicious finger cakes, accompanied by tea (or coffee, if you’d rather) served from a silver tea pot. You can sit back in the comfy chair and watch the spray from the Falls in the distance while you sip your hot drink with one pinky extended.
I love how, even though you’re surrounded by other tourists and the comforts of modern living, certain places can transport you back in time to a different era. I can just imagine the ladies in their lovely gowns sitting and gossiping, while the men play a gentleman’s game of cricket on the lawn. Or perhaps croquet. The Victoria Falls Hotel is one of those places where you can let your imagination run wild. It can be a place of infinite inspiration, if you let it.
Of course, everyone’s experience will be different and some might say the sandwiches were a little stale and the coffee somewhat insipid, but it is exactly what you make of it. And I enjoyed every second of it.
